Why an Online Course?

How to use Kallah Companion

Overview

Traditionally, each kallah learns the laws of taharat hamishpachah privately from a married woman. In previous generations, this was usually her mother; nowadays it is often a kallah teacher or a rabbi's wife. This kind of face-to-face interaction is generally the best framework for transmitting these intricate and sensitive halachot.

So, why did we create an online curriculum?

If you are taking regular kallah classes - which we highly recommend - Kallah Companion can be a valuable supplement. The course gives you a framework to review what you've learned and to explore questions that you might not encounter otherwise. You can also use Kallah Companion to prepare the material in advance.

We hope that your preparation will include significant personal, individual instruction. But if you don't live in a large Jewish community, or if you have a particularly demanding schedule, your opportunities for individual instruction may be limited. Kallah Companion is available at any time of day, anywhere in the world. You can opt for lots of short sessions or for fewer long ones, at whatever frequency suits you best. You can review material, test your comprehension, and ask questions whenever you want.

The lessons in this course were prepared by yoatzot halacha, women halachic consultants. These are women who have devoted two years (over 1000 hours) to intensive study of the Talmudic and halachic sources of taharat hamishpachah, augmented by studies in medicine, psychology and other specialties relating to women's health and halacha. The Medical Advisor to the course is Dr. Deena Zimmerman, the author of A Lifetime Companion to the Laws of Jewish Family Life, who is both a yoetzet and a practicing physician. The Rabbinic Advisor is Rabbi Yehuda Herzl Henkin, author of four volumes of halachic responsa, Shu"t B'nai Banim.

Marriage Companion

If you are already married and want to review the halachot of taharat hamishpachah, we recommend our online review course, Marriage Companion. In the future, after you are married, you may wish to review the halachot with Marriage Companion.

Kallah teachers and Rebbetzins are encouraged to register for both courses simultaneously.
